Hi, I have been struggling with my computer to fix the error 1606 to no avail. I have tried all the advice of other threads which has not worked. Anytime I try to update itunes, java, adobe, etc. or install new programs, I get error 1606. I sent a fix it to microsoft, nothing happened. I tried to fix it manually by checking the values, which read correctly: AppData REG_EXPAND_SZ %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Are you referring to registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData having a value of %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming? If so and the key is correct, it could be a malware infection and I suggest you: 1. If System Restore is enabled and goes back far enough, run it selecting a date before this happened. 2.
